Raptor Rehab Center

WE ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR ON SITE REHAB AT THIS TIME. WE CANNOT CURRENTLY COME OUT AND DO OFF SITE RESCUES. AT THIS TIME WE ASK THAT YOU USE LOCAL ANIMAL CONTROL TO PICK UP THE BIRDS AND GET THEM TO US. WE HOPE THAT OFF SITE RESCUE WILL BE AVAILABLE AGAIN IF AND WHEN WE ARE ABLE TO GET ENOUGH TREINED VOLUNTEERS.S

The American Wildlife refuge is one of the oldest all volunteer bird of prey rehab centers in the state.  We have been open continuously since the 1970s, and public since 2001. Our volunteers are all devoted to the birds.  We have a survival rate higher than many centers twice our size, and have successfully worked with more types of birds than many other rehabbers in NC.

According to the State of North Carolina, there are 22 licensed rehabbers in the state.  Of those 22 licensed, 10 of them seem to be retired or not actively rehabbing.  That means that only 12 people in the state are actually doing all the rehab work in all 100 counties of NC.

Is it any wonder we get between 150 and 300 birds each year?
